Candy Thomas, NRCS

Fundamentals Workshop Speaker 

Candy Thomas, Salina, Kansas, is a regional soil health specialist in the Kansas state office of USDA-NRCS. Serving in an advisory role on the board of directors since 2013, Candy believes NRCS goals align closely with those of No-till on the Plains in helping people help the land. NRCS has developed many tools and standards to help farmers improve soil health and soil conservation. She holds a master's degree in agronomy from Iowa State University. Candy and her husband also operate a diversified farm on the Iowa Missouri border. 

Paul Jasa, Extension

Paul Jasa serves as an Extension Engineer, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he develops and conducts educational programs related to crop production that improve profitability, build soil health and reduce risks to the environment. 

He has worked with with planting equipment and tillage system evaluation at the University since 1978, gaining valuable information about the “dos and don’ts” of no-till along the way in a number of crop rotations and soil types. He is happy to share information about the systems approach to long-term benefits of continuous no-till. 

Nick Vos

Nick Vos was born in South Africa where he grew up on a vegetable farm in the Limpopo Province. Moved to the USA in 2006, became a US citizen in 2011, and currently resides in Hugoton, Kansas, with his wife Johanna, and their two girls Gianna and Nikayla. Nick farms a multitude of row crops, cover crops, and his wife Johanna raise Dorper sheep on about 900 acres that they rotate between cash crops and forages. He also owns and operates two Ag retail companies, that focus on high-yielding corn and the other one on specialty inputs and cover crops.
