Bob Klein

Robert N. Klein is an Extension Cropping Systems Specialist at the University of Nebraska West Central Research and Extension Center at North Platte, Nebraska.  His work includes both dryland and irrigated crop production of wheat, corn, soybeans, grain sorghum, dry beans and sunflowers  using herbicides and limited tillage to conserve moisture, soil, energy and labor.  Precision application of herbicides is of major importance to this program and to improve on ground herbicide application he has been using the computer to analyze spray patterns since 1984. Recently he started using a laser analyzer to study the effects herbicides and additives have on spray particle size and distribution with various nozzle tips. Spray particle size charts are usually derived from spraying water only through the nozzle tips. Spray particle size and distribution affect both pesticide efficacy and drift

Since 1989 he has assumed leadership for the Crop Variety Testing Program in the West Central District.  Under his leadership the program is being mechanized using state of the art technology.  He has served as chair of several Corn, Soybean and Grain Sorghum Expo’s which are statewide events.

Prior to his current appointment he was Extension agent and Chair  in Red Willow County, Nebraska for 20 years.

Paul J. Jasa serves as an Extension Engineer, University of Nebraska.  He develops and conducts educational programs related to no-till equipment and system management.  He received both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Nebraska and has been working with planting equipment and tillage system evaluation since 1978.  With his experiences gained from research and Extension activities, he has become a good source of information in the Midwest on no-till planting equipment and system management. If there is a mistake to be made with no-till, he has either made it himself  or has seen it done.  More importantly, he has learned from those mistakes and wants  to share that information stressing a systems approach.
