WHIRLWIND NO-TILL EXPO
The Whirlwind No-Till Expo was three big days -- July 28, 29, and 30, 2003 -- of power-packed hands-on learning with the pros of no-till across Kansas and Oklahoma.  Over 250 attendees were present for the day-long events held at Glen Elder and Hutchinson, Kansas and Blackwell and Red Rock, Oklahoma.  Experts Dr. Ray Ward of Wards Labs, Kearney, NE; Dr. Paul Jasa of the University of Nebraska/Lincoln; Dr. Bob Wolf of K-State; Kansas NRCS State Agronomist Bud Davis, Agronomist and No-Till on the Plains board member Matt Hagny, NRCS Soil Scientist Bill Wehmueller, Oklahoma NRCS Soil Scientist Greg Scott as well as Feature Farmers Doug Palen, Ron Jacques, David Young, Tom Cannon, and Tony Kodesh and others brought vital information to the crowd as well as in-the-field demonstrations.  It was an excellent chance to see the rainfall simulator in action and witness the impact that no-till practices have on soil.  In addition, equipment talks, sprayer demonstrations, as well as soil pit observations allowed the participants to hear vital no-till information first-hand as well as seeing it put into action.   No-Till notebooks were provided to attendees as well as a BBQ lunch.

Whirlwind Key Speaker Dr. Paul Jasa of the University of Nebraska/Lincoln commented:  “It was great to have the audience stick with us throughout the day - 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. is much longer than the typical field day - indicating the producers valued the program.”
